|
|
Hi all!
I don't want you to get too excited (yet), but tonight does mark a milestone in PAP development. Our first public test version of the Mac version!
The reason for downplaying its significance and not posting this as huge news is that this release is far from the final version, and there are still many bugs and even functional deficiencies.. and we need your help to fix them all!
This is our first attempt at making ANY application for the Mac, so bear with us please.. it's a DMG file, and upon mounting it, you must copy it somewhere, for instance to your home directory.
IMPORTANT FACTS:
- Testers need to understand that this version is not meant for real work or production. Its purpose is mainly to allow us to know if PAP works on many different Macs.
- THIS RELEASE IS ONLY FOR INTEL MACS! Sorry about that - we hope to release a proper universal binary soon.
- No traditional Mac menus (the top bar) yet
- No resizing of the window yet
- Lots of file formats not working yet
- No licensing yet
- Since it cannot be licensed yet, only saving in PAP:Free will work.
- Saving of JPGs in PAP:Free doesn't work yet
Please let us know how this works for you, if at all.
Download this only if you want to help us out, again: it's not meant for work, it's meant for early testing. Now that the above is all made clear to you, download it here: http://www.plasticanimationpaper.dk/files/PAP4.0_INTEL_TEST.dmg
Regards,
The PAP Team _________________ --

I have an iMac with 2,16 GHz Intel Core Duo 2 processor, 2gb RAM. Downloaded the test version of PAP and copied it into the applications folder. I opened all 3 versions, but unfortunately, none of them work. I'm not able to click on anything, none of the buttons work. I can't even quit the program, to close it i have to press alt + cmd + esc and force it to quit. I don't know if i should have done anything else when installing it?

Hi Annika,
Thanks for testing!
There are problems with the close symbols and the top bar menus, but you should be able to draw inside the window.. do you have a tablet installed? Also, did you try clicking inside the window a couple of times before drawing?
Another question, could you try pressing the Insert key to see if you're adding frames to the animation? Also, you can press F12 to get the quit confirmation and then "Y" to confirm.
Could you let me know if any of the above works for you?
I hope to release a new version soon with these issues fixed, but I'm a little new to the Mac. _________________ --

Hi again,
Yes i'm using an intuos2 a4 tablet. I think i just needed to restart my computer for the program to start working, because today it seems to work. The mac keyboard doesn't have an Insert key, but it works to press that button inside the program to add more frames, and it works to play all the frames as a loop or just once. I had to restart the program a couple of times, i pressed something and got a white arrow tool and then the program just stuck.
When i press F12 (the OS has a funtion on F12 in mac OS 10.4 by default, so i had to change that setting to be able to use the key) i get the "do you want to quit?" and it does quit when i press Y, but the buttons "yes" and "no" don't work. I guessed that "no" would be on N but when i pressed N nothing happened.

Thanks a lot! This is exactly the kind of feedback we would like! I think there's a problem with focusing the window in relation to other windows, so sometimes the focus doesn't return to the PAP window and you can't draw.. moving and tapping a bit makes it work again.
I hope to release another version soon you can test for these issues.
Thanks again! _________________ --

My pleasure! I'll be happy to test the next version, i'm very much looking forward to the release of PAP for mac!
-Annika
Just discovered another thing:
The keyboard commands for mac is usually cmd (apple symbol) + some key, so first i couldn't figure out why i couldn't press cmd + z to undo etc. but then i realised that the keyboard commands are the same as for pc, CTRL + Z etc. could be hard for mac users to get used to, but it seems to work. _________________ ------------------

Jakob,
How's development of the PPC version going? eagerly awaiting its release!
Is there an estimated timeframe?
Reading through the comments on the Intel beta version, I can second Annika's comment that cmd+xxx etc rather than ctrl+xxx is a lot more intuitive for mac users.

We will do the Cmd-xxx change, definitely..
We hope to produce a Universal binary that will work on both platforms. _________________ --
